Every 4th grader in California is supposed to learn about the missions that were built up and down the coast. Jake has to write a report for his class on any of these missions. We chose the one in the San Fernando valley, aptly named Mission San Fernando. I have not been there since I was in fourth grade in 1976. It has been beautifully restored since the earthquake of 1994. The grounds are enormous and the church is beautiful. Jake loved looking at all the statuary, many of them are hidden back in trees and secret hiding places. We also found out that Bob Hope is buried on the mission grounds behind the church. There is a lovely landscaped garden and a grotto where he is buried. There is room next to him for his wife when she passes away. It was a beautiful day to be out and about.
